How To Slash 30% - 60% Off Your Business
Overheads Without Compromising
Quality or Efficiency…

These FIVE VIDEOS will put you on the right path to making
serious savings in your business!

From the Desk of:
George Notaras, Biz Connect Asia

Dear Business Owner / Manager,

The need to cut costs in business has never been stronger - and, as many company's are finding, an effective way to do so is to "outsource".

Outsourcing is not a new concept. Everyone in business practices it in some way - for example, using a graphic design studio rather than having your own in-house designers, getting your accounts done by an accountant rather than employing accounting staff, etc.

In recent years, there's been a major spurt in outsourcing, fueled by ready availability of expertise at affordable rates through services such as oDesk.com plus wide acceptance that many standard business requirements can be performed much more cost effectively in countries such as Mexico, India, Philippines, Poland, and Slovalia.

The momentum towards outsourcing is now so strong that no-one in business can afford to ignore what is happening. At the very least, it's an area which every business owner / manager needs to understand and have an appreciation of.

Nearly all my business career has in one way or the other involved outsourcing - either as a provider of outsourced services (computer bureau, fulfilment, web development, etc) or as a user of facilities and services provided by external groups.

My first experience of "offshore outsourcing" was in 1994 when I visited the Philippines to get some business functions performed by local groups.

In early 2002, I relocated full-time to the Philippines to manage an international group who were servicing clients all around the world from a Manila base.

I got a real shock when I arrived as Manila circa 2002 was vastly different to the Manila I experienced in 1994. The city had grown up - driven to a great extent by outsourcing!

Today, Manila is ...

The Outsourcing Capital of The World

Tick An estimated 500,000 people are already employed in the "outsourcing" sector - and this is projected to grow to more than 1 million by the year 2012. No other center anywhere in the world comes close!
Tick Thousands of company's are already outsourcing to local companies - from corporations such as Citibank, AIG, HSBC, Shell, Disney and Pixar through to small to medium online and offline businesses.
Tick The talent pool is enormous - staff are university trained with excellent english language skills and good enough to produce MTV Videos and animation for movies and television for worldwide release, as well as perform detailed accounting, legal research, and banking functions remotely.
Tick The savings being achieved are very significant - for example, one group saved 70% ($7,000) on development of their corporate website whilst another saved 65% ($11,000) on their corporate video by using local services.

The growth projection mentioned above is very real. For example, the Australian Trade Commission recently advised that 800 Australian company's had expressed an interest in establishing operations in the Philippines during 2010.

Now that's from one country alone highlighting the momentum that offshore outsourcing has ... all because of the significant savings which offshore outsourcing can provide.

"We were sourcing labels for our health products via a broker which was costing us around $2,000 per print run. Through your operations there, we have cut that down to $700 per print run including shipping. I don't know how you do it, but I am certainly very grateful!"

The City Is Geared For Outsourcing

Many people who have never been to Manila assume that it attracts "outsourcing" work purely because of low labor cost. Yes, it's the main driver, but it is supported by ...

Tick An infrastructure geared for "outsource centres" - there are four major business areas in Manila, including the CBD. They are all very modern with the same infrastructure you find elsewhere in the world, including quality broadband connnections, facilities catering for staff, and transportation.
Tick An "open 24 hours" lifestyle - thereby providing outsource staff with leisure and lifestyle options regardless of whether they work a daytime or graveyard shift.
Tick A booming real estate sector - new buildings are going up everywhere to cater for the growing number of outsource staff who want to live "close to work". More more than 9,000 new condos are currently under construction and whole new centers such as Fort Bonifacio (The Global City) have blossomed since I arrived 8 years ago.
Tick It's the commercial center of the Philippines - and therefore provides support functions for areas such as the Clark Free Trade Zone (built around the former USA airforce base) and Subic Bay (the former USA Naval base) both of which are also booming!

Manila

Now there are many cities in the world which boast similar infrastructure, but Manila with a population of 19 million provides a huge "educated" and "english speaking" workforce at great rates.

When I say "great rates", well they can be as low as 15 -25% of what you need to pay for equivalent quality staff in many other countries - for graphic designers, call center staff, web developers, accounting staff, etc.

In other words, you can get the same job done for less WITHOUT compromising quality!

Whilst labor is only one part of the cost equation, it's often the biggest overhead in many businesses, an overhead you must control in order to remain competitive!

By controlling your labor costs, you also give yourself a better chance to achieve your profit expectations.

Offshore outsourcing gives you the opportunity to achieve significant savings as demonstrated by the following calculator. (Simply enter in raw data specific to your business to see the sort of savings available to you.)

Of course, this is a very cursory way of determining your potential savings, but it's enough to help you appreciate why thousands of business people come to Manila (and other offshore outsource centers) each year to learn and explore what options may be available to them.

During the past 8 years I have met (and helped) hundreds of business people who have come to the Philippines to explore what was possible on the outsourcing front. All of them have had the same questions...

What's involved in doing business there - how do
I get started - and who should I deal with?

If you've ever had to outsource or use sub-contractors / freelancers for any purpose, then you you know it takes time to identify the right company / person and then you have to go through a settling in stage as you get to know how to work with one another.

The same applies to offshore outsourcing...

The choice of service providers in Manila is virtually limitless - in all disciplines. For example, the Call Center Association alone has 56 registered members, yet there are probably more than 200 call centers in Manila, everyone of which will tell you they can handle your work.

The same applies with web development, accounting functions, graphic design, video production, printing, shipping, production, etc.

Yes, you can contact your Embassy and ask them for assistance, even visit goverment departments who are there to assist you.

Unfortunately, neither are experts in the various functions you need to address. You still have to do the hard yards and learn for yourself which provider is best for you and how to get started ... and at times you can run around in circles.

"I spent almost 2 weeks talking to various service providers and going nowhere before sitting down with you. Yes, I was confused! However, you took away the pain. I now know I can set up a telesales function there at 30% of what I would be paying here in Denmark. Thank you for your help."

The usual scenario for many is that they arrive in Manila with some meetings scheduled in advance
- sometimes with companies that their friends or colleagues have referred them to - and go through the exploratory process of learning how things are done, what is on offer from each of the providers and what is required to get started.

That alone takes 3-5 days, sometimes longer if you are serious about doing business here ... because you must FIRST familiarize yourself with both cultural and commercial issues which are different to back home.

During that time, your day-to-day living expenses alone will run at more than $150 per day. So you are probably up for $500 - $1000 in ancillary expenses BEFORE you can start getting into the nitty gritty of planning what is required for your own needs.

Of course, that all depends on whether you are dealing with the right people. That's a separate challenge in itself, one that can on its own consume a full week of your time.

During my eight years living full-time in the Philippines, I've been through all the hoops with company registration, staff recruitment and management, site leasing, bulding re-furbishment, technology etc - the very tasks which company's seeking to outsource to the Philippines need to address.

In that time, I've developed a "network" of people who know what they are doing - a "network" which we have now formalized into a one-stop service - Biz Connect Asia.

A prime motivator in establishing this service was to address the common issues which most business owners and managers confront on their first "exploratory" visit to Manila, questions such as:-

  • "can my needs be effectively handled offshore"?
  • "how do I get started"?
  • "who should I deal with"?

These are questions which must be answered BEFORE you can contemplate going forwards - and there's time and costs associated with doing that.

Yes it's easy to justify those costs on the basis that you are working on achieving some significant long term savings for your business. But 3-5 days is a big amount of time to take out of your schedule and, as some have found, can be wasted if you walk away with "half-answers".

The ideal scenario is that you learn what is possible and how to get started BEFORE making a special trip to Manila - or any other offshore outsourcing center because the basic principles are pretty much the same no matter where you decide to outsource to - so that you don't have to incur these 'hard" costs!

Offshore Outsourcing Made Easy does this for you by providing:-

A simple and inexpensive way of learning what is
possible from the comfort of your office...

This is the step which normally consumes 3-5 days of your time - and can cost $2,000 or more (when you include airfares) - if you were to board a plane and come to Manila to learn what is involved first hand.

It's what I call the "research step" - the point where you find out:- what is involved in doing business here -- the types of services that are available -- the expertise they provide -- their track history -- how they operate -- and how to establish an effective relationship with them.
